Helen Palmer passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 85. Helen was born on September 9, 1930 to Helen and Richard Doolittle in Louisville MS. Helen graduated from Louisville High School as salutatorian of her class in 1948, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Mississippi State College for Women in 1952. Helen married in 1955 and had an only child, Pam Dickens Skinner in 1957. Helen was a pioneer business woman of her time. While raising her daughter as a single parent, she had a successful business career for 30 years at Great Southern Life Insurance Company, in Houston, TX from 1957-1987. She moved to San Antonio in 1987 to be with Pam, her daughter and family. Helen continued her career with GPM Life Insurance Company from 1987 until her retirement in 1997. Helen was an excellent seamstress and quilter. Helen's favorite past time was spending time at the beach with her family and she loved to go fishing. She was a very simple, easy going independent woman, always placing her family first in her life. We will miss her dearly, cherishing all the memories she has given us. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Richard Doolittle; husband, Robert Joseph Palmer. She is survived by her only child, Pam Skinner with husband Mark; grandchildren, Haley Skinner and Sean Skinner. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00AM at the Hill Country Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jerry Slye officiating.
