Harriette Powell

October 2, 1936 — March 23, 2014

Harriette Maria Dolores Powell (nee Walker) passed away March 23rd 2014 at the age of 77. Harriette was born in St Louis MO but being a true Texan, quickly made her way to San Antonio two months later. Harriette was preceded in death by her father, Harry Lawton Walker, mother Santos Estella Walker (Ramos), sister Cecilia Walker Fierro, and her beloved Mighty Mutt. Harriette was an amazing mother to four girls, an accomplished cake and candy crafter, Girl Scout Council Leader, volunteer in multiple organizations throughout the years where she would often teach cake decorating as well as speaking English, French and Spanish. Harriette's door was never closed to humans or animals. Like her mother before her, she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was well known for her acts of kindness and charity. Harriette is survived by her daughters: Yvette Arguijo and her three children: son Robert Jr. and his children Ashley and George; son Jason and wife Victoria and his children Jarod, Aliya and Zeynep; and son Paul and wife Trini and their children Lisette, Dakota and Jackson; daughter Yvonne Hobson; daughter Valerie Shuttlesworth and her children Jennifer, Justin and Jeshua; and daughter Marguerite Rael and her husband Robert and their son Joshua and wife Rebecca. Harriette will also be missed greatly by her sister Angelica Sanchez and her brothers David Walker and wife Alana, and Gerard Walker, her cousin Maria Dolores Benavente, niece Michele Yanez and husband Raul as well as countless other nieces, nephews and cousins. Harriette was blessed with many many friends to whom we extend a thank you though we cannot name them all: Lois Jones, Kaye Powell, Robert and Esther Arguijo, Tiffany Allen, Leslie Vasquez, Tom and Sandra Adams, Stella and Norma from Heart to Heart Hospice, and her church family, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Harriette is being cared for by the Schertz Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship and celebration of her life beginning at noon at the home of her daughter Yvette on Sunday, 31 March 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Autism Speaks (http://www.autismspeaks.org/) or the Homes for Pets/Schertz Humane Society (http://www.homesforpets.org/) in Harriette's memory.
