Harold Miller

November 28, 1930 — January 17, 2013

Harold Addis Miller, United States Marine Corps Veteran and Founder of Garden Ridge, Texas, passed to the next life on January 17, 2013 after a long battle with Cancer. He was born on November 28, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha Downum Miller and Henry Antone Miller and his eldest Son Harold Andrew Miller. He is survived by his Daughter Julie Farrar and her husband Tom; Daughter Karen Boyte; and Son Carl Miller; Grandchildren Crystal Waelti, Henry Miller, Janell Matney, Lori Bordisso, Lisa Janicke, Joy Dunaway, and T. J. Farrar; Great Grandchildren Madison, Chase, Alleck, Benjamin (D), Gavin, Kristian (D), Charlie, Talon, Kodin, Kylianne, and T. K., along with numerous Nieces and Nephews. Harold was a quality home builder and built numerous homes in Windcrest. As the Developer and Founder of Garden Ridge, Harold built quality homes and donated land for the establishment of a city park. He was one of the original founding members of the Bracken Volunteer Fire Department, and the Garden Ridge Lions Club. He was a member of the New Braunfels Elks Lodge, Highland Hills Freemason, Shriner with the Alzafar Shrine Temple, Chairman of the Board of Garden Ridge State Bank, member of the Universal City American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Schertz Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved Hunting and Fishing and enjoyed sitting by a roaring campfire with a good cup of cowboy coffee, a glass of Bourbon, or a very cold beer. Harold loved to travel and cruise the world. He visited many countries and continents including Antarctica. Visitation will be held Friday, January 25th from 5:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m at the Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 F.M. 3009. Schertz, Texas 78154. A Celebratory Service of life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26th at the Schertz Funeral Home followed by procession to Oak Island Cemetery, 2790 DeVilbiss Lane, San Antonio, Tx. 78264 (approximately 1.3 miles East of Hwy 16 along loop 1604). In lieu of Flowers, donations to Heart to Heart Hospice of San Antonio, 8918 Tesoro Dr., Ste 108, San Antonio, TX 78217 are requested. After the interment service family and friends are invited to gather at the Oak Island United Methodist Church fellowship hall (next to the cemetery) for a Texas Barbecue mealjust as Harold (Dad/Grandpa) would want.
