Harold Hugo Haecker, age 79 returned to his heavenly home on June 13, 2017 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace as he went to be with the Lord.
Harold was born August 9, 1937 to the late Alvin Louis Haecker and Ida Zillmann at their family homestead. He was raised in a large German-speaking family with two brothers and three sisters who grew up working the family land. He would later meet his lifelong soulmate Wanda Jo Motley in 1959. Their love was swift and the courtship soon become marriage on August 13, 1960.
Soon after, he was called to duty and served in the U.S. Army overseas in Germany as an English-German interpreter where his German heritage served him well. Upon his return to the states he and Wanda were reunited and began starting their own legacy.
Harold and Wanda started their life together farming and ranching on family land. They welcomed their first child in September of 1963 and soon after would fill their home with four more. Harold and Wanda instilled a hard work ethic and honest lifestyle in each of their children. Harold was a dedicated husband, father and hard-working farmer who never took a day off. Up until his death, he was still heavily involved in the farming activities with the help of his children and grandchildren.
His bright blue eyes could not be ignored and would always share his love for the land God had allotted him to care for and the family he has been blessed with.
Harold is survived by his wife Wanda Haecker, his brother Ralph Haecker and wife Gladys, his children Vickie Haecker, Gerald Haecker and wife Sharon, Debbie Brown and husband Bill, Tommy Haecker and wife Kathy, Donna Thiele and husband Terry, his sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 18th from 5:00-8:00 PM at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Redeemer United Church of Christ at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 19th with the interment to follow at the Redeemer United Cemetery.
