Grace Cummings

Grace Leone Cummings passed away on June 6, 2009 in San Antonio, TX after a long illness. She was born to Gustave and Lydia (Guildner) Haglund on February 10, 1919 in Mohall, North Dakota. After the tragic deaths of brother Harry from appendicitis in 1922 at age 7 and of her father in a farm accident in 1924 at age 48, the family moved to Minnesota where she spent her childhood. She married Earl F. Cummings on September 29, 1939. They made their home in Madison where Grace lived for over 70 years. She was staying with her daughter and granddaughter in San Antonio when she died. Grace bowled with the Madison Womens Bowling Assn. for over 30 years and was a member of the 600 Club. She was a charter member of the Madison Metro Cribbage Club, became a Master Player, and won the Grand National Championship in Chicago in 1984. She loved cribbage and played in tournaments across the country. Grace also loved playing poker, dancing, flowers, houseplants, feeding the birds, and taking care of her pets. Grace is survived by daughters Leone Liston of San Antonio and Vicki Malueg (Dan) of Palm Coast, FL; granddaughters Joanne Liston-Robinson (Marty) of San Antonio and Melissa Malueg of Palm Coast; greatgrandchildren Cody, Sarah, Samantha, and Miranda; sisters-in-law Eleanor Hepler and Myrna Cummings; brother-in-law Norman Cummings (Elaine); a niece, many nephews and cousins. She was further preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Earl, in 1975; her mother; beloved sister Adell Conrad; brothers-in-law Ralph Conrad and Kenneth Hepler; and nephew Jimmy Hepler.
