Gladys Pfannstiel

Gladys Mae Haecker Pfannstiel, 91 years old of Cibolo, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016. She was born to Antonio "Tony" and Elsa Schaeffer Haecker on January 8, 1925, on the family farm in Guadalupe County near Cibolo, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roman Pfannstiel. She is survived by her son, Ray Joy Pfannstiel and wife Pat; daughter, Janice LoPresti and husband John; daughter, Karen Jacobsen and husband Tom; Grandchildren, Allen Pfannstiel and wife Mindy, Kenneth Pfannstiel wife Andrea, Joy Carter and husband Brian, Sherri Van Oss and husband Brian, Michael LoPresti and wife Jessica, Justin Heitman and wife Dannielle; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Harold Haecker, and numerous loving family members and friends. Gladys graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1942. She married Roman Pfannstiel on February 10, 1945. They started farming 200 acres with a new Farmall H. Tractor. The first year's crop was destroyed by a hail storm. Due to drought conditions, Gladys started to work for civil service on Randolph AFB on February 1956. She retired from civil service after 38.5 years in June 1994. The last 20 years were with Air Force Medical Recruiting Division. She received numerous awards and was President of the Randolph Luncheon Forum. After retiring from civil service, she helped Roman on the farm full time by driving tractor, combine, and hauling grain to Hild Bros in Marion and helping to feed the cattle. In between farming duties, she was involved in Marion High School Band Boosters Club, Future Young Homemakers, Future Young Farmers, St. Paul Women's Fellowship, Sunday school teacher, St Paul treasurer, New Braunfels High School Class of 1942 Class Reunions, numerous dominoes games, Bunco Club, Book Club, Bible study, Retired Air Force Medical Recruiting luncheons She also managed to work for Jack-In-the-Box part time for 10 years. She was active in the Guadalupe County Farm Bureau attending local and state meeting and participating in membership drives. She was always ready to play dominos anywhere and at any time. She enjoyed traveling with Roman to visit the children in Hawaii, San Francisco, Altus, Niagara Falls, New York, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Nashville, Atlanta, Germany, and Las Vegas. Gladys also was a charter Sweepstakes member, during which time she won several trips and merchandise. Gladys was a strong advocate for higher education. She encouraged all her children and grandchildren to earned a college degree or above. Gladys loved the outdoors working with her green thumb on her flowers or out on the farm chopping weeds. She was successful in researching and obtaining the 100 year and 150 year Texas Heritage Farm award for the Pfannstiel Farm. Pallbearers are Allen Pfannstiel, Kenneth Pfannstiel, Michael LoPresti, Justin Heitman, Allen Weyel, and Jose Calzada. Honoree pallbearers are Joy Carter and Sherri Van Oss. Visitation will be held at the Schertz Funeral Home on December 16, 2016 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Dec 17, 2016 at St Paul Evangelical Church in Cibolo at 9:30 AM, with Rev. Jason Ford officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Church or the Texas Agricultural Education & Heritage Center.
