Gladys Marie Gore, age 78, passed away on January 23, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on April 28, 1939, in Bald Knob, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert & Bessie Dempsey; brother Gary Dempsey; and sister Darlene Webb. Gladys is survived by her children Debra Hixson & husband, Kenneth of Texas, and Michael Hoover & wife, Valerie of North Carolina; siblings Margaret Gore of West Virginia, Curtis Dempsey & wife, Judy of Alabama, Roger Dempsey & wife, Rose of Ohio, Lula Hall & husband, Don of Missouri, and Jennie Graham of Alabama; grandchildren Christopher & Aaron Hixson of Texas, and Lynn, Kayla and Jacob of North Carolina; great-grandchild Kinsley of North Carolina; very special dog Mia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Earlier in her life, Gladys worked as a cosmetologist and owned her own salon. Later in life, she worked in retail and managed a card shop. She was a beautiful artist and loved painting, doing many types of crafts and hobbies, putting together puzzles, crocheting, sewing and was an excellent gardener. She also loved sunrise & sunset walks on the beach, and especially long strolls in the country with her family and beloved dog Mia. She felt great joy and pride to be around her grandchildren and would cherish every laugh and hug. Gladys was a wonderful Christian woman who was devoted to God and to her family. She was dearly loved by them and will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held in West Virginia at a later date.
