Gilberto “Beto” Martinez, entered eternal rest June 23, 2019, at home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 89. He was born April 19, 1930 Encino (La Mesa), Texas to Juan F. and Criselda P. Martinez. He was a graduate of Falfurrias High School. He served proudly for Company A 194 Engineering corps US Army during 1951 thru 1953. He received several decorations for his tour in Korea. He always took pleasure in helping others and never met a stranger as he worked as a Route Delivery Truck driver for almost 30 yrs until his retirement. He was a great role model as a father, husband, grandfather, and great-grand father who was gentle and had a heart of gold. Born into the farming and ranching environment, he mastered many skills which he shared with us until his mid-80’s. He loved music, dancing, and sharing family stories. Even though he is no longer with us, he left an imprint on the lives of many and his memories will last a lifetime. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan F.and Criselda P. Martinez, and His sister Eloisa M. Ramirez. He is survived by his soul mate of 62 years, his wife, Linda Martinez, one Son Levy Martinez (Veronica) of Humble, Texas, daughters Aida Enna Martinez Cibolo, Texas, Mari Alvarez (Mike) San Marcos, Texas Elva Rey Silva (Lauro) Falfurrias,Texas, and Irma Salas (Alex) Falfurrias,Texas, 3 grandchildren; Kassie (Patrick) Pruneda Houston,Texas, Mike Anthony Alvarez San Marcos, Texas, Daniella Estel Alvarez San Marcos,Texas, Great Grand baby Ava Reese Pruneda Houston,Texas, Sister Elodia Castellano Falfurrias,Texas and Brother Noe Martinez Encino, Texas and numerous Nephews and Nieces. Visitation will be held on Friday July 5, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Selma, TX at 12 noon. A rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm followed by Mass at 1:00 pm. Graveside service will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:45 pm.
