Gerald Marbach, 64, of San Antonio TX, passed away, Wednesday, March 16, 2017 after a year-long battle with cancer. Gerald was born September 5, 1952 in San Antonio TX to Udo and Erna (Schumann) Marbach. He graduated from Judson High School in 1970. On October 28, 1972, he married his wife of 44 years, Judy Ann Banks. They moved into their home in Converse where they raised their 2 daughters and lived for many years. Gerald worked in construction for several years while also being part of the Texas Army National Guard Reserves. In 1986 Gerald decided to change career paths and moved into a full-time position with the Texas Army National Guard 136 Regiment (Combat Arms) where he retired as a Master Sergeant after 36 years of service. During his time in the Guard he served his country proudly and was responsible for training soldiers on the intricacies of artillery. He also served a tour of duty in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the Gulf War. Gerald was an avid outdoorsmen. He loved to hunt and fish as often as possible. He loved being outdoors whether it was working on the yard, barbecuing or just piddling in his shed. Gerald is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Rhonda Williams and Amber Marbach, son-in-law, Joseph Williams II, granddaughter, Emily Williams, 3 sisters, 6 brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Diana Ciomperlik and brothers, Anthony and Jerome Marbach. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM, at Schertz Funeral Home, located at 2217 FM 3009, Schertz TX 78154. A Funeral Service will be held on March 21, 2017, at 10:00 AM, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 1065 E Live Oak Rd, Schertz TX 78154. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, SA TX 78266. Once the service has concluded, there will be a reception held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Schertz. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Stand Up to Cancer (www.standup2cancer.org).
