George Jones, Sr.

April 30, 1936 — April 17, 2018

George Warner Jones, Sr. was born in Walker, Minnesota @ 300 miles north of Minneapolis. A few years later, his family moved to Minneapolis and that's where he attended grade school, junior high school and high school. George was very interested in sports having played basketball, football, and running track for his high school. After graduating high school, George entered the US Army where he spent 30 years and attained the rank of Sergeant Major prior to his retirement in 1986. His many assignments included two tours in Germany, two tours in Korea, two tours in Alaska, one tour I Viet Nam and various assignments in the United States to include California, Washington, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. After retiring from the military, George moved to Oakland, California where he spent 15 years instructing Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps at an Oakland high school. After retiring from that position, he and his wife Sonia moved to Cibolo , Texas where they built a home and spent most of their retirement traveling within the US by automobile and taking cruises to other countries such as the Caribbean, Mexico, and Panama Canal Zone. Memorial service will be held at the Schertz Funeral Home, on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 8:00 am with the chapel opening at 7:00 am, from there a procession will depart for Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a 9:30 am committal service with full military honors.
