Gaynell Pinion

September 8, 1957 — January 6, 2018

Gaynell, affectionately known as " Dunnie" was born September 8, 1957 to the late Robert Slack Sr. and Geraldine Taylor Slack. As a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and resident of Cibolo, Texas she was educated in the Orleans Parish School System graduating from John McDonough Senior High School and attending Delgado Jr. College and Ashford College. At an early age our beloved was baptized at Hartzell United Methodist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana and later attended Summit Christian Center in San Antonio, Texas. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3 and her favorite hymn was Amazing Grace. Gaynell's spiritual walk on this Christian journey was not an easy one but she still portrayed characteristics of a faithful child of God through her acts of kindness and deeds toward others.

Gaynell was united in holy matrimony to Gary Paul Pinion on November 5, 1976. To this union two beautiful daughters were born Franchisca and Shadee'. Her two grandchildren, Maleeyah and Quinton Jr. were the apples of her eyes. There wasn't anything in the world that she wouldn't do for them. As a dedicated wife and mother, she believed that anyone that does not provide for their family has denied their faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Dunnie's career started at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans and later worked for the Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) for the past 35 years of which (3) years in Europe and 32 years in San Antonio. As a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, and aunt, she made herself available to her family in ways that were special. Our beloved was a friend, doctor, lawyer, counselor, protector and a witness for Christ. Moral values were taught to each of her love ones in good and bad times. Her greatest desire was for her family to stay close no matter what obstacles came their way. She had a sweet and caring spirit that captured the heart of anyone she came in contact. Gaynell was always thinking of any reason to have a party. If you were a friend of Gaynell that meant you truly captured her love and trust and she was always willing to help anyone. Dunnie was a very outspoken person. Her life was centered around her family, and she had her own way of doing things. Gaynell enjoyed partying with her family and cooking. Her specialty dishes were cabbage and mustard greens. No one in the family could cook these dishes as she did. When the Potter put this clay together, she was one of a kind. To everything there is a season, time to be born and a time to die. The angel of the Lord saw her getting tired and whispered, "It's time". On Saturday, January 6, 2018, the Lord called Gaynell "Dunnie" Elinda Slack Pinion home. She leaves to cherish her sweet memories her loving husband, Gary Paul Pinion; two daughters, Franchisca (Quinton) Johnson, Shadee' Pinion; four siblings, Wanda Slack, Robert Slack (Christine), Michell (Raul) Jackson Terrence Slack; two grandchildren; Maleeyah and Quinton Jr.; aunts and uncles, Joseph( Joann) Taylor, Pauline (James) Matthews, Lvinia Reddicks, Celestine Lockley, Rose Slack, Nolan (Kathleen) Slack, Samuella Slack; Sisters-in-law, Pattie (Gerald) Gusman, and Darlene Greene and a hosts of family and friends.
