Gayle Millicent Chaney

May 29, 1965 — December 31, 2023

Cibolo, Texas

Mrs. Gayle Millicent Brown-Chaney was the daughter of the late Daisy B. Clark and the late Richard Weaver. She was born on May 29, 1965, in Florence County, SC, and departed this life in the family home on December 31, 2023, in Cibolo, TX. She lived a life of dedicated service to her family and friends and touched the lives of all who came to know her.

Gayle was raised in a loving home by her maternal grandparents, the late Mary H. and the late Seward C. Brown, Sr., with five brothers and four sisters. At an early age, she was nurtured in the Christian faith in Chavis A.M.E.C., Hemingway, SC, and her faith served her throughout her adult life.  Gayle wasn’t afraid of life and lived it to its fullest, and God blessed her and Richard Allen Dollard with Crystal, their beautiful daughter.

Gayle attended Hemingway Primary School and Chavis Middle School and graduated from Hemingway High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Benedict College. While enrolled there, she was Miss Benedict College, active in campus activities, and served in the college’s R.O.T.C. Program for four years.

Prior to Gayle's move back to Hemingway, she was married to Maurice Danny Chaney. Shortly after that, she moved in with her daughter Crystal and Crystal’s husband, Sergeant First Class (SFC) Ramon Antonio Reyes. They traveled and lived in Washington State, Louisianna, and San Antonio before settling in Cibolo, TX., where she was engaged to Frank Neil.

Gayle was employed in the food and healthcare industries and was responsible for many under her care. She loved working with children and was a childcare provider and a Teacher at the Kiddie Academy, Cibolo, TX. She also enjoyed the company of the family dogs, Snow and Kane, and their guinea pig, Biscuit.

After the passing of her son-in-law, Ramon Reyes, Gayle gave her time and energy to her daughter and grandchildren. Many friends and family loved her. She was always devoted, continued to be involved, and never lost her adventurous spirit.

In addition to her parents and her maternal grandparents, she was preceded in death by her uncles, Seward C. Brown, Jr. and his wife Sherial and J. Stafford Brown (Louise).

Left to Cherish Gayle's memories are her loving and devoted daughter, Crystal Brown-Reyes (SFC Ramon Reyes deceased); two brothers, Kelly Cark (Hope) and Anthony McCray (Deborah); three uncles, Rev. Ronnie Brown (Gwendolyn), Rev. Dr. Norman A. Brown (Frederica), and Rev. Theodore A. Brown, L.D.O. (Dr. Athena); three sisters, Corine B. Morris (Sam deceased), Beryl B. Weaver (Marshall deceased), and Theodora A. Lee (Sherman); two grandchildren, Nadia Natalia Reyes and Ramon Antonio Reyes, Jr. and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. We love you and will always cherish your memories.
