Gary Truman Daniel, age 65, died on December 31, 2010 while at Odyssey House after a long battle with Lung Disease. Gary is survived by a wife, Vicki; Four children: Paul Ohanlon, Tisha Pruett, Shanna Fuentes, and Dusti Daniel; Six grandchildren: Kailinn Fuentes, Tanna and Tara Pruett, Kaitlin and Kali Hippert, and Jimmie Nell Ohanlon; Siblings: Virginia Evans, Ada McCutchen, Floyd Daniel, Della Hobbs, Norma Moore, Preston Daniel, Delton Daniel, and Lynn Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Edna Daniel, his sister Wanda and his brother Euel. Gary was born in Crowell, Tx. on September 12, 1945 and was raised in Ralls. After graduating, he attended Canyon College on a basketball / baseball scholarship. When he was a junior in college, he decided to take a job and earn money to finish his schooling. He was then drafted into the United States Army. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served proudly for almost two years and received an Honorable Discharge. After returning from the war, Gary started working in construction where he was quickly noticed for his talents. He found he had a knack for the business and worked as a Superintendent for almost 40 years until he was forced to retire in October of 2009. He oversaw several notable construction projects such as The Alamo Dome, Fiesta Texas, San Antonio Courthouse, Cornerstone Church, University of Texas at Austin library and numerous others. He was considered The best concrete man in Texas and hardly ever missed a day of work. He was well respected and took great pride in a job well done and completed on time. Gary was considered a family man. He loved his family and friends deeply and would gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He had a wonderful personality, always making people laugh. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, dominoes, golfing and sports. Learning about History was a past time and he was a die-hard Cowboys fan. There wasnt a waltz he would pass up. He also loved to cookwhether it was for 150 people at a family reunion, on his pit in the back yard or breakfast for his grandbabies. Gary was a man with a big heart. He filled our lives with love and happiness. He will truly be missed. Keep his memory alive by cherishing and loving each other unconditionally.
