Gary Bruce

Gary Lynn Bruce passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2018 at the age of 75. Gary was born on February 3, 1943 in Munday , Texas to Elmer and Arlee Bruce. He grew up in Knox City, Texas and graduated from Knox City High School. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Bruce and they began their journey together. Gary started his career as a meat cutter in Seymour, Texas and through dedication and hard work he rose through the ranks. He was the director of meat operations at Sun Harvest Farms for 23 years and ended his career in Anchorage, Alaska after 16 years as a director of meat operations for the Northwest Meat Company. Gary was also a talented musician and singer. He played music with his band in and around San Antonio for 30 years. At the height of his music career he recorded two 45's and appeared on Austin City Limits. Gary was truly loved by his family and will be missed. His wit and humor were one of many attributes that made him the coolest "Dad" on the block. He was generous to anyone in need and always pulled for the underdog. Gary's work ethic could not be matched; the man could not be stopped. Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Gary you were an inspiration to us all and your generous spirit lives on through your children and grandchildren. Gary was truly loved by his family and will be missed, but will remain in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Arlee Bruce; son, Mark Wayne Bruce; and brothers, Glenn and Ronald Bruce. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn Bruce; children, Gary Allen Bruce of San Antonio, Texas, Tamilyn Dupaquier and husband Marc of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Robin Bruce, Jacques Dupaquier , Allen Bruce and Austin Bruce; sister, Cheryl Berryhill and husband Buford of Munday , Texas as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 4: 00PM-8 : 00PM at Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 10: 00AM at Schertz Funeral Home with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
