Gail Roskamp

June 18, 1958 — May 19, 2010

Gail Roskamp Aka NANA She was a wonderful woman who was loved by many. If everyone could have a heart like hers, we would live a long wonderful life. Unfortunately God was ready for her to come home. He knew her business was done here, and she was needed elsewhere. As we live our lives each day, we come across some paths that may be rough or smooth, but as everyone knows God does not give you a challenge that he doesnt think you cant accomplish, solve or be able to handle. Gail has been down some rocky roads as she grew older. She was in the United States Air Force for her full 2 year term. Right beside her was her Loving Best Friend Deanna Hunt aka her sister for life. Her Sister and her were like Lucy and Ethel off of I LOVE LUCY! As Gail went through the Air Force she met her first husband Dennis Batt who was in the military as well. They had a special event happen in their lives in 1979. Gail got pregnant with her first child, which was a son. They called him Stephen Michael. This put a stop in Gails military career. Back then they kicked women out for being pregnant. Gail and Deanna would bar hop and hang out all the time. In 1980 she was blessed with a wonderful thing, we could say an angel in her eyes. It was a baby girl, her name was Glenda Marie. She was born on Marine Cores birthday. So now she has two wonderful children in her life. She had to work two jobs to keep up with the cost of raising two children. She would work anywhere she had to rather it be fast food, bartending, catering, and even baking. Gail ended up with a divorce with her first husband, and found a better man to be in her life. His name was Preston Roskamp. That was in 1984. He would take good care of Gail and her children. Here is a funny story to tell everyone. When Preston asked Gail to out to eat she told him, Sorry but I dont have a babysitter for my daughter. He told her bring her with you. They went to Golden Corral for a first date. Glenda was sitting across from Preston as Gail went up to the buffet, and said, Are you sure you want to be with my mom, you know she is going to be 30, and she is an old goat. Preston just laughed. The dates continued, and the next thing you know they are married. Gail got into a bakery, which was called Day Light Doughnuts. She owned this business, with a couple of her close friends, Patty, and Dale, and Sherry. Gails kids even helped her, when they werent in school or just on weekends. Time to make the doughnuts Gail would say every morning, as she got up to go to work. As the years went by, the stress built up on Gail. She ended up having a stroke. So she sold her business. She changed jobs, and in 1997 Gail was bartending at the Sports Mans Bar. There was a gentleman sitting at the bar, when she was coming in to work. His name was Mike Cochran. He was a Rail Road Engineer. Mike was sitting there relaxing after doing a run with the train. They made eye contact, and Mike caught the twinkle in her eye. They would hang out all the time at the bar, or go to lunch. They became real close friends. Gail would make breakfast tacos for Mike and even lunch and a few baked goods, she had made herself. Their relationship grew stronger. He ended up moving in with her in Schertz. Mike is the most wonderful person in the whole wide world. He took GREAT care of Gail. He got her through all her health issues. The hip replacement, broken arm, MRSA, it almost killed Gail. It was a very rocky road for Mike to go down, but he hung in there for her and the family. Gail was a very tough woman, she was able to pull through any obstacles that God gave her. May 19, 2010 Gail came across one obstacle that God gave her that she was not tough enough to beat. That was a brain aneurism. Her daughter Glenda had to make a tough decision of her life. That was to sign consent to do surgery on Gail. Glenda consented the surgery, but the surgery didnt work. Another aneurism came up and was double the size and took over the left side of her brain and destroyed it and the top part as well, which made Gail brain dead. The doctors had her on life support. Here comes the obstacle that Glenda had to get through. Taking her mom off of life support. We gathered together the family and friends we would like there to say goodbye to her. Mike, Deanna, and Lloyd, Glenda, Randy, Autumn, Steve O Reno, Stephen, April, Michelle, Duane, Nicole, Justin, Carl, Robbie, Crystal, Travis, Stacey, JO, Jennifer, and Phillip, Cindy, Preston, John and Helen, Darci, John and Krissy.
