Gaery Goodman

August 5, 1952 — February 2, 2010

Gaery Dean Goodman, beloved husband, father & friend went to Heaven surrounded, as he had wished, by his cherished family and dear friends. Gaery was born to Lionel & Rosario (Garza) Goodman on August 5, 1952 in Laredo, Texas. He passed from this life on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gaery is survived by his devoted & loving wife, Vickie Goodman of Universal City; his adored triplets, who he was immensely proud of, Christopher, Rebecca & Lynnel, all of College Station (proudly all three are pursuing higher education at Texas A&M University); his nieces, Lori Buswold & husband, Richard of North Richland Hills, Texas and Becky Hamm & husband, Greg of Yukon, Oklahoma; several great-nieces & nephews and his dear friend and hunting buddy, Diego. Gaery was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force. There came a time when his interest fell to pursuing a career as a postal carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for fifteen years. He and Vickie launched into a family endeavor and stepped out into the business owner avenue by opening Do Brazilia, a unique Brazilian style restaurant. Soon after that time his diagnoses led him to focus all his energy on fighting his illness and enjoying his family, which he did with love and affection for more than five years. Gaery loved to BBQ, entertain his friends and most of all cook good food. He was well known for supporting all the interests of his three children whether that be in band, orchestra or raising livestock for the FFA. He was a beloved member of the FFA Alumni and served as an officer. The FFA students at Judson had a dear love, respect and appreciation for his talent and his gifts of uniquely designed wood equipment and individual designed signs for every individual animal pen whether that be steers, lambs, goats or pigs. He had commented that he had been given the gift of creativity that he had never had before when he began his treatment. He became more and more elaborate and creative with each project. Gaery Goodman truly was a Good Man and all who knew him would attest to that fact. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM (with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM) on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park on Hwy 46 in Seguin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, Vitas Hospice or UTHSC San Antonio Department of Urology.
