Frederick Henry Hazelton was born June 28, 1927 in Oklahoma City, a proud American and tribal member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. He passed away, in Schertz Texas, February 24, 2016 at the age of 88.
Fred enlisted in the Army Air Corps August 1945, and was trained as a cook, stationed at Adak Island, Alaska with the 11th Air Force. In April 1947 Fred was honorably discharged and awarded the World War II Victory Medal. In September 1950 Fred reenlisted in The Air Force and was sent to RAF Station Lakenheath, England with the 3710th AB Group.
It was while he was stationed in Lakenheath that he met and married his wife of 51 years, Joyce Hazelton, who preceded him November 12, 2003.
Fred continued in his Air Force career serving overseas during the Korean and the Vietnam conflicts. Finally retiring from the Air Force with the rank of Tech Sergeant on the 1st of August 1969 from Randolph AFB.
Fred was a proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus for 61 years. He joined councils at each duty station he was assigned to while stateside.
Preceding Fred in death are his parents: Frederick K. Hazelton and Clara Agnes Hazelton and his twin brother Theodore Charles Hazelton of Oklahoma City.
Fred is survived by his younger brother Wilbur Clovis Hazelton, his eldest son Robert James Hazelton, his daughter Christine Joan Hazelton and his youngest son Paul Jeffery Hazelton. Grandchildren include Christopher Charles Stewart, Miranda Lynn Hazelton, and Sarah Noel Hazelton.
Viewing is from 5pm to 9pm at Schertz Funeral Home on March 3rd, and funeral mass to be held at Good Shepard Catholic Church in Schertz at 9 am on March 4th. Interment follows at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with honor guard and three-volley salute.
