Fred Powell, Jr.

CMSgt Fred C. Powell, Jr., USAF Retired, passed away August 29th 2012, at the age of 80. Fred was born in Paris, Arkansas on November 24th 1931, and graduated from Westbrook High School in Westbrook, Texas, in 1950. Fred attended the New Mexico Military Institute before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1953. Fred proudly served his country for over 26 years before retiring in 1980. He continued his service to his country by working for Civil Service from which he retired in 1996 at Randolph Air Force Base. His many awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. Fred is survived by his wife of 28 years, P. Kaye Powell, his daughters: Yvette Arguijo, Yvonne Hobson, Valerie Shuttlesworth, Marguerite Rael and her husband Robert; and his step-children Melanie Jaffie Crauder, Edward S. Jaffie, Jr., Karin L. Jaffie, and Amber L. Wilson. He will be also be missed by his grandchildren: Robert Arguijo, Jr., Jason Arguijo and wife Nurdan; Paul B. Arguijo and wife Trini, Joshua C. Rael and wife Rebecca, Jennifer, Justin and Jeshua Shuttlesworth, and Gerald Smith as well as his nine great-grandchildren. Chief Powell is being cared for by the Schertz Funeral Home and will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on September 7th, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship and celebration of Freds life beginning at 4PM at the home of his daughter Yvette on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the COPD Foundation, Autism Society, or the Schertz Humane Society (Homes for Pets) in Freds memory. A special thank you is extended to Harriette D. Powell, Freds former wife, for her assistance in caring for Fred during this time.
