Francisco "Frank" J. Vela, age 58, was called to the Lord on April 3, 2017 while surrounded by family. Frank was born on December 5, 1958, to Faustino R. and Ana Maria Vela in Del Rio, TX. Frank was a veteran, who served proudly in the United Sates Army for 13 years. He had a passion for music, sports, and barbeque. His favorite sports teams were the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the Baltimore Orioles. He also loved his wrestling. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He was the funniest person you could know, and was always cracking a joke. Frank would see every situation in the best possible light, even when struggles were around. He never held a grudge and was always willing to lend a helping hand, known to give the shirt off his back if he could. He remained strong for his children and his family even during periods of pain due to his illness. He never showed his children he was hurting, remaining strong. Frank always had a smile on his face. He is survived by his parents Faustino R. and Ana Maria Vela, daughter April Ramirez (Israel Ramirez, Jr.): sons, Francisco Vela, Jr., Michael Vela, and Steven Vela; brothers, Robert Vela, Richard Vela, and Roland Vela; grandson, Israel Ramirez III, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with the Funeral Service to be conducted at 7:00pm the same evening. Interment will be on Friday, April 28, 2017, 10:00am, at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, where he will receive US Army honors.
