Floyd Rieper

April 15, 1916 — March 20, 2017

Born in Harvey, IL on April 15, 1916, his family moved to San Antonio at an early age. As a youth, he worked multiple odd jobs to help his mother support three children and joined Civilian Conservation Corps as a teenager, helping build and maintain National Parks in Arizona. He later joined Civil Service, working at Randolph AFB, but entered the Navy following Pearl Harbor, serving as an Aviation Supply Specialist on the USS Savo Island in the Pacific Theatre. After returning to Randolph AFB following the war, he was sought out by San Antonio Air Material Command at Kelly AFB where, prior to retiring, he spearheaded many supply projects including the prepositioning of initial support for C-5A. Loving to fly, he also earned his private pilots license. After retiring from Kelly AFB, he and his wife enjoyed bowling, gambling, bingo, and traveling by train or boat, visiting many exotic locations. Floyd is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mary Ellen Rieper and daughter Patricia Lewis. He is survived by his children Edna Marie Kennedy, Ellen "Suggie" and Leo McDermott, Ken and Barbara Rieper, Susan and Rich Schultz, and Paul Rieper, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to; Apex Home Health, ComForcare (New Braunfels), AMed Hospice and Dr. Cristo Calle for the wonderful care given to their loved one. Visitation will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 25, 2017, 11:00am, at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel with a private interment to follow at a later date.
