Everett Wayne Malaer of Schertz, TX, passed away on Feb. 1, 2024 at the age of 88. He was born in Luling, TX to Glyn and Claudia (Curry) Malaer.
Wayne married the love of his life, Lula Keefer Malaer, on Aug. 20, 1954 in Coleman, TX. Eighteen days later he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and began his 20 year career in the service of his country working on the airplanes he loved. His Air Force career took him to Illinois, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, the Philippines, Okinawa, Canada, Germany, Spain, Panama, California, and Area 51. Wayne was an airplane electrician who worked on many different aircraft. He was most proud of his time working with the U2 spy plane as a member of the 4020th Squadron. Many lifelong friends were made during his time in the 4020th.
Wayne loved music and played the guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. He was often singing or whistling whenever he was working around the house or in the yard. Wayne also enjoyed woodworking, cooking, golfing, gardening, and traveling. His mother taught him to crochet and he enjoyed making intricate doilies. When he could no longer make doilies he began crocheting warm hats, scarves, and blankets for family and friends. Wayne’s biggest enjoyment was spending time with his family and making memories with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Wayne never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went.
Wayne is survived by his daughters, Loretta Watson (Paul), Vilinda Guetzkow (Steve), Jackie Taylor, and Mae Sturdy (Roger), 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife Lula, his parents, brothers Bob, Marvin, Chuck, and Dalton, sister Faye, and great-granddaughters Emily June, Hope Amethyst, and Annabeth Lula.
