Evelyn Podojil

Evelyn Podojil, age 92, died of Complications due to cancer on January 27, 2020, in her home in Cibolo, Texas.

Evelyn was born on January 24, 1928 in Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland. She married her husband of 64-years Lawrence Podojil Sr. in Corner Brook, Newfoundland in March of 1948. She and Lawrence traveled around the United States to many locations to support Lawrence’s United States Coast Guard career. Along the way Evelyn raised five children with more love and devotion than can be imagined.

Evelyn’s family and friends will always remember her warmth and incredibly delicious meals. She was always busy, sewing, knitting, reupholstering furniture, making curtains or working in the gardens with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Podojil; Parents, Gilbert and Hannah Lomond; brothers Charlie, Phillip, Jordan and Clyde and her sisters Margret and Sue.  Evelyn is survived by her two sisters, Sheila Lomond Haywood, of Columbus, Ohio, and Vera Lomond Wheeler of Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland. Her five children, Lawrence Jr and Connie Podojil of Bristol, Indiana; Ronald and Sharon Podojil of New Braunfels, Texas; Nancy and James Schleser of Orange, Virginia; Paul and Ginger Podojil of Damon, Texas; and Michael and Rhonda Podojil of Schertz, Texas. Evelyn had 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on February 5 th, 2020 from 6 to 8 pm at Schertz Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on February 6 th , 2020 at 8:00 am at The Good Shepard Catholic Church in Schertz, Texas; followed by a Graveside prayer at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:00am.  A reception will be held at the home of her son Michael at 3:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Evelyn’s life. Flowers and donations can be sent to the Schertz Funeral Home or donate to the American Cancer Society in Evelyn’s name.
