Eva- Potter

March 22, 1938 — May 19, 2019

Eva-Maria Potter, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 19, 2019 in Garden Ridge, Texas. Eva was born in Dresden, Germany on March 22, 1938. She spent her childhood there with her beloved mother Johanna Elfriede Scholze. On September 19, 1957, she and her mother traveled by ship to America and began their lives as Americans, always cherishing the freedoms we have in this country.

Eva met her husband of nearly 52 years, Tom Potter, while working at Handy Andy in San Antonio, Texas. Together they raised a family of four children, cherished Eva's mother as part of the household, and were caregivers to countless animals, mostly dachshunds. Eva's children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she never missed any of their school events. She was especially proud of their musical endeavors and served as a chaperone for the Canyon High School band for nearly twenty years.

Eva and her family were founding members of Triumphant Lutheran Church in Garden Ridge, Texas. She was proud to be part of a group of twenty-five families who originally formed the church.

Eva will be remembered for her fun-loving and silly personality. Her home was always filled with laughter, even in her final days. More importantly, she will be remembered for the profound life lessons she taught. She was the kindest, most accepting, most generous person you could ever meet. Her family aspires to carry on her legacy of love.

Eva is survived by her devoted husband Thomas A. Potter, son David Potter and his wife Mary Lee, daughter Anna Sweeden and her late husband Stanley, daughter Tina Holbrook and her husband Jon, daughter Monika Arnold and her husband Brad, and seven cherished grandchildren; Courtney Gaines and her husband Paul, Ethan Potter and his wife Jess, Garrett Sweeden, Lauren Schuler and her husband Zack, Kelsey Holbrook, Hanna Arnold, and Nicholas Arnold.

The family would like to express their eternal gratitude to those who shared the honor of caring for Eva. Her family is forever thankful for Gayle Maltby and Jo Arnold.

A memorial service will be held at Triumphant Lutheran Church on Friday, May 24, 2019, at 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in Eva's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Triumphant Lutheran Church, or a meaningful charity of your choice.
