Eva finished her life's journey on September 9, departing to join her Lord Jesus Christ for a well deserved heavenly rest. Born in Berkeley Missouri to William Paul and Virginia (Reagan) Stone, she spent her 79 years loving, laughing and teaching. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Pauline Spain and brother Joseph Stone, both of Farmington, Mo. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James J Meloche, MSg (US Army, ret) of Converse,Texas; her children James P. Meloche of Converse, and Sara Meloche, MD of Friendswood; sister Lois Fix of Florida; granddaughter Christy Galindo of San Antonio, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephews.
While raising 2 young children, she completed her BS in Education in 1971 from the University of Missouri St Louis and later completed a Masters of Education from Southwest Teachers State University in 1985. She taught for 20 years at Montgomery Elementary School in NEISD, where she earned the love and respect of her students and colleagues. Her last years in teaching were devoted to the education of special needs children, a challenging but rewarding conclusion to a 26 year distinguished career. She taught hundreds of children during her career, but in recent months was reminded through cards and letters of the dozens of teachers she also mentored. She coached many of these young educators early in their careers, leading by example.
She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Kirby Baptist Church where she served on various committees during her 30 year membership. She loved her Lord fiercely and expressed that love in the care and devotion she showed to her church family. She was so content when sitting at Patchwork Pals, creating baby quilts for the Baptist Children's Home and lap quilts for wounded soldiers at SAMC. She volunteered at the Agape ministries retail store and the Kirby Senior Center, sharing her love of God through ministering to others, She will be remembered as a good and faithful servant.
She was a long term member of the Southwest Gem and Mineral Society, where she famously created polished rock "critters" which have become a popular staple on the childrens wheel at the annual SWGMS show. She was the queen of the hot glue gun, most recently passing the creation duties to her niece and grandnieces. The teacher in her always insisted on making labels for the rocks and identifying minerals, developing a touch table to help promote more educational features for the kids at the show.
She loved dancing with her husband, she loved wearing hats (especially red ones), and she loved making quilts and needlework art for family and friends to commemorate life events. She loved the color red and giraffes. She loved bird watching and delighted in feeding the birds (and squirrels) in her backyard. Her laughter and smile were contagious. She had a sharp wit but tempered it with kindness. Her voice was rarely raised in anger.
Eva's 14 year battle with lymphoma ended at Abode Home, a beautiful facility where she was surrounded with love and compassion by the staff and volunteers there. With her family at her side and her favorite John Wayne movie playing in the background, Eva's body was lost to the cancer, but her spirit won eternal victory and we rejoice in that freedom for her.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Abode Home or Agape ministries of San Antonio. Visitation will be Wedne
