Eugenie Hermann

Eugenie (Jean) Louise Hermann, born on October 3, 1930, passed away on June 4, 2015, at the age of 84. She was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. At the age of 8 she began singing duets with a girlfriend locally. This established a lifelong friendship and love of music. Jean married Richard Ruebsamen in 1951. They had 8 children together. She worked as a school bus driver after the youngest started 1st grade. In 1971 she and Richard separated. In 1977 she married Fred Hermann whom she had known and loved for several years. Between them they now had 13 children and 3 grandchildren. This amount has grown to 32 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and still counting. Over the years Jean drove school buses, worked in fast food and drove a taxi cab. At the age of 50, after being injured, she went back to college and obtained a business degree. She then went to work for Aetna and worked for them until she became disabled by a stroke. In 1992 after retiring, Jean and Fred moved to San Antonio, TX to be near their eldest daughter and to get away from the snow in the winter. They have resided there ever since. They both became active members of Christ the King Lutheran Church and joined the choir. Jean also worked with the quilters and other women's groups. Jean had a gift for being able to do any kind of hand crafting she admired, such as any kind of needlework, painting, basket weaving, quilting, sewing, and jewelry making were just a few of the abundance of projects she would be found working on. She also loved to put together puzzles, and play card games. She and Fred also enjoyed many years of traveling visiting family and friends. Jean is preceded in death by father, Charles D. Tillman Sr.; mother, Loysell G. Tillman; sisters, Eunice Armstrong, Ann Rounds, Julie Armstrong; brother, Charles D. Tillman Jr.; great grand-daughters, Lydi Ann Henderson, Madeline Darlene Martin. She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick B. Hermann; children, Cheryl A. Becker, Lydia Norris and husband David, Robin Schmidt and husband Michael, Susan Henne and husband John, Debra Yawman, Karen Aboutcha, Joan Ward, Richard L. Ruebsamen with wife Honie, Frederick B. Hermann Jr.with wife Lou Anne,Barbara Boessel, Teresa Hoy,Matthew Hermann with wife Carol, Margaret Hermann and husband Kevin; thirty two grandchildren and thirty two great-grandchildren.She will be deeply missed by her family, church, and friends. She will also be remembered with love, laughter and gratefulness for a legacy of memories that she left behind. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, located at 1129 Pat Booker Rd, Universal City, TX 78148 at 6:00PM. Pastor Eileen Spehr will be officiating. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request that a memorial donation be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Heart to Heart Hospice, 1340 Wonder World Dr. Suite 4202, San Marcos, TX 78666.
