Esperanza Deleon
April 23, 1936 — August 27, 2014
Esperanza ("Hope") De Leon, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, and went home to dwell in the house of our Heavenly Father at the blessed age of 78. She was born to parents Hilario and Minerva Cantu on April 23, 1936, in Poteet, Texas. Hope's generous heart and lively spirit touched everyone she met and she leaves behind a legacy of strength and love for an extended circle of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brother David Cantu, and her sister Minerva Alvarado. Hope is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Manuel De Leon, Sr.; three daughters, Lillian Oswalt (Ron), Mary Oswalt (Don), and Linda Hall (Brian); one son, Manuel, Jr; siblings Lucia Garcia, Edward Cantu, Lydia Rodriguez, Amelia Campa, Angelina Rodriguez, and Larry Cantu; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at Schertz Funeral Home between 5:00pm-9:00pm on Monday, September 1, 2014, with a vigil service and rosary planned for 7:00 pm that evening. The Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (1065 E. Live Oak Rd, Schertz, TX) at 10:00am, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery (17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX). The family would like to thank the extensive staff of dedicated doctors and nurses at the Critical Care Unit of Northeast Methodist Hospital who delivered such expert and compassionate care to her during her final days.
