Ernestine Frierson
July 23, 1944 — July 17, 2015
Ernestine Frierson was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on July 23, 1944. She was the fourth of seven children born to Cassie (Arps) and Charley Wright. All preceded her in death except one sister. She is survived by her sister, Hazel Nicholson. Ernestine's family moved to Los Angeles, California when she was three. Ernestine accepted Christ at an early age and attended Main Street Church of Christ which later became Imperial Church of Christ. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1963. After graduation she took classes at Southwest College in Los Angeles. She worked as a social worker for Los Angeles and San Bernadino Counties for 17 years. Ernestine was joined in marriage with Robert James Frierson, Sr. in 1969. Three children were born to the union: Leshon D. Frierson, Thaylia J. Frierson (deceased) and Robert J. Frierson, Jr. Ernestine loved her family above all things and was lovingly referred to as Granny by all who knew her. She loved to host family events and prepare home cooked meals from scratch. But even with all the time she spent in the kitchen, she always could be counted on to play games with her grandchildren. Ernestine moved to Austin, Texas in 2000 to be closer to her children. She began a new career working as a security officer at the Austin airport and then at the IRS as a tax examiner. She retired from the IRS in 2009 to take care of her youngest grandchildren. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and visiting family around the country. She is survived by her children, sons Shon Frierson (Saphina) of Long Beach and Robert Frierson (Judy) of Atlanta; daughter Lynette Kennedy (Jeff) of San Antonio. Grandchildren, Jeneice Timmons, James Chase, Jeffrey Chase, Adrienne Kennedy, Andrew Kennedy, Robert Frierson and Hollis Frierson and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, 11:00am, at Northside Church of Christ, 19818 US 281 N. San Antonio, TX 78258. The interment will follow at the Assumption Cemetery in Austin, TX.
