Ernest LeRoy Verdoes

Ernest LeRoy Verdoes, age 87 of Schertz Texas passed away on January 14, 2024.  He was born on March 4^th, 1936, to Nick and Elsie Verdoes in Hartley Iowa.  When he was a baby, his sister Virginia said that it looked like he had a pumpkin head, so he earned the nickname Punky, or Punk.

After finishing high school, Ernie joined the Navy.  He was honorably discharged after four years of service.  Soon after he was offered a Job at Lockheed Misle and Space Corp, in California where he worked until retirement. He married Patricia Ann McIlrath of Spenser Iowa and they moved to Fremont California. His hobbies were camping, fishing, and remodeling his house.  They had four children. He and Patricia divorced.  He married Sandra Boulet, she was the love of his life.

Ernie is survived by three children; Valorie Crow, Andrew and Kristina Verdoes, and Michael and Holly Verdoes; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded by his wife Sandra, son Steven, parents Nick and Elsie, and sister Virgina Strayer.

The Funeral Service for Ernest will be held at 12:30pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, featuring United States Navy Honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
