Ernest Haskell Hooper Jr.

October 5, 1974 — July 14, 2024

Ernest Haskell Hooper, Jr., left this world on July 14, 2024. Ernie was born on October 5, 1974 in Seaford, Delaware to parents Ernest Hooper, Sr. and Betty Chamberlain. In his early days, Ernie was affectionately nicknamed “Kojak” due to his bald appearance at birth.

Ernie’s zest for life was marked by memorable moments from the beginning, that never failed to bring laughter and joy to those around him. His spirited nature was evident when he would dance to piped-in music at restaurants, and the unforgettable incident involving a toasted PB&J sandwich and a mischievous dive onto an unknowingly broken waterbed.

In his educational pursuits, Ernie attended Seaford Senior High School before furthering his studies at DeVry University in Columbus, Ohio. His dedication to learning led him to the University of Phoenix in Los Angeles where he obtained his Mater’s Degree and was on the path towards completing his Doctorate at the University of Phoenix in San Antonio, Texas.

Throughout his professional journey, Ernie held various roles that showcased his work ethic and determination. From being a contractor to a salesman at Mitsubishi dealership in Ventura, California, followed by positions at Sprint in Los Angeles, and San Antonio. His career concluded with dedicated service at Charter/Spectrum in San Antonio from 2011-2020

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ernie found joy in activities such as golfing, visiting the gun range, playing guitar, horseback riding, reading John Grisham novels, relaxing at the beach, and cherishing time with his family and friends.

Ernie’s legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Janiece Hooper (Fiedler), daughters; October “Tobi” Adan (15), Autumn Rayne (14), and son, Liam Matthew (12). Ernie will be missed greatly by his mother Betty Chamberlain alongside Mack Absher, sister Lisa McAnally (Mike), and brother Vincent Absher; nieces Alley Hooper, Vicky Bass and Christy Thomas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; Aunt Darlene (Bill Mason); Aunt Jenny (Freddy Jalot); Uncle Bobby Ray Terry; Uncle Dale Terry.

In reflection of those who have passed before him- Michael Chamberlain who held a special place as a father figure; Ernie’s older siblings Randy Bass, Anthony Bass; youngest brother Matthew Leonard Hooper; Grandparents Anne Gertrud Youngblood and Leonard Terry – may they be reunited in peace.

Ernie Hooper’s spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest peacefully knowing that his memories will endure as a testament to a life well-lived.
