Emily Marttala

April 10, 1936 — February 24, 2019

Our sweet mother and grandmother, Emily Patricia Beaudreau Marttala, passed from this life to the next on February 24, 2019, while cradled in the "bosom of her family." After a brief but brave battle with serious medical challenges, and a final few days at home with much hugging, kissing, storytelling and singing, she drifted away painlessly and peacefully to the other side.

Emily was born April 10, 1936 in Seattle, Washington to Alice Louise Evans Beaudreau and Joseph Edward Amos Beaudreau, and was raised in Edmonds, Washington. She was a talented musician and writer, and enjoyed playing the piano, writing poetry and short stories, and singing. She attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and Western Washington College in Bellingham, Washington, then worked as a secretary in the high-security section of what was then the Boeing Airplane Company's Pilotless Aircraft Division, and later as a legal secretary. After raising her family and caring tirelessly for her mother-in-law for many years, she worked as a long-term companion caregiver for several terminally ill patients. Emily was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and found there strength and inspiration as well as a vehicle through which she exercised her extensive organizational, service and leadership skills. As a Ward and Stake Relief Society President her selfless example of compassionate service still influences family, friends, and fellow church members far and wide. She taught her sons to work hard and take pride in their accomplishments. Above all, she is remembered for her endless capacity for forgiveness.

Emily is now dancing and laughing with her parents, and all her many close friends who preceded her in death. We love and miss her immensely, and know she is always watching over us. The day before she passed, when asked if she was in pain, Emily replied, "No, I'm in happy." Her final words the next day were, "I love you."

Emily -- "Ammo" to her grandchildren -- leaves behind her son Chris (and his wife Anni, daughter Juliana, and son Tanner) and son David (and his wife Lisa, daughters Alaynna and Katryna, and sons Logan and Aleksander).

The Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 1st, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Schertz Ward Meetinghouse in Cibolo, Texas. A brief graveside service and final interment will follow Sunday, March 3rd at 11:00 am at the Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in Seattle, Washington. Flowers may be sent to the Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, Texas 78154.

Emily treasured her family and her wide, lifelong circle of friends. Each of these relationships was, as she would say, "a little drop of oil in her lamp of life" - a light that brought her true joy and illuminates our memories of her. We love you, Momma... ‘til we meet again.
