ELMER LE ROY BURGHARDT
passed away July 18, 2018 in Schertz TX. He was born on July 23, 1933, in Protection, Kansas to Arthur and Clara Burghardt of Protection, Kansas. He grew up in Protection, attended Protection schools and graduated from Protection High School with the Class of 1951. He also graduated from Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, Texas. He was a resident of Schertz for 47 years.
After graduation, he worked for Boeing Wichita before enlisting in the U. S. Air Force. At the time of his enlistment, the Air Force had a recruiting slogan of "Join the Air Force and See the World". During his 23-year career he was stationed in Texas, Japan, Hawaii, Kansas, England (twice), France, Arkansas, Maine, and Thailand. While in the service, he traveled to Germany, Spain, Norway, Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland and the Philippines. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in Logistics Propulsion Management at Kelly AFB TX for 20 years giving him 43 years of government service.
While stationed in England, he met and married Rosemary Bell of Welford, Northamptonshire, England. They spent their honeymoon in Edinburgh and Glasgow Scotland.
He was a member of American Legion Post 667, Universal City, Texas and a Life Member of VFW Post 4676, Universal City, Texas.
He was predeceased by his pare
nts, brothers, Paul and Robert, and sisters, Leotia and Ladonna
Survivors include his wife, son Ross and his wife, Alexandria, granddaughter
Sadie of Marysville, Ohio, brother Marvin Burghardt of Belle Plaine, Kansas, sister-in-law Mary Burghardt of Puyallup, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.
It was his desire to be cremated with internment at a later date at Protection, Kansas.
