Elizabeth Jane Woolf passed into the loving arms of our Father on October 10, 2010. Betty was born on October 23, 1928 in Galveston to District Judge James Corneleus Canty and Louella Jacqueline Hilton Canty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Henry Mac Woolf. Betty was a beautiful, loving, kind and generous person. She served as a military spouse and raised her family moving frequently with multiple assignments worldwide. She was also a graduate of TCU and later earned her teaching certificate. She taught 19 years in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City School District where she was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1989-90. She shared her joy of reading and touched the lives of many students. After her retirement, Betty spent many hours playing with her beloved grandchildren, volunteering at the library and church welcoming new military families and praying for others in need. She will greatly missed by her family and friends, and we will treasure our memories of her. She is survived by her brothers, Brother Tom Canty of New Orleans, and Steve Canty of San Antonio, her children, Bill Ables and wife, Pat of Humble, Jim Ables and wife, Deborah of Universal City, Bruce Ables and wife, Dahlia of Schertz, and Carol Brants and husband, Roger of Beaumont, and her grandchildren, Alexandra and Leslie Anne, Cory, Dalton, and Rachel, and Kimberly, Jojo, Jeremy and Nikita, also numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM (with a Rosary to be Recited at 7:00 PM) on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass will be Celebrated at 12:30 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Universal City Public Library, 100 Northview Drive, Universal City, TX, 78148.
