Elenore Rose Scott, of Universal City, Texas, passed from this life, peacefully at home, in the early morning hours of July 2 nd 2020.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gladys Cooksey, her sister Lucille Radley and her husband of 48 years, Robert W. Scott. Elenore is survived by her daughter Carole Scott, son James Scott, sister Jan Mitchell and brother Nicholas Cooksey.
Born on January 7 th , 1939, in Leigh-On-Sea, Elenore began her life in World War II England. While her father served as a Royal Air Force pilot stationed in Gibraltar, Elenore, her mother and her older sister, moved south of London to live with her aunt. Her grandfather, a builder, had built a series of bungalows. Four of those bungalows, side by side, were occupied by her mother’s sisters and brothers and their families. They all lived together and supported each other throughout the war and the reconstruction. Whenever Elenore told the stories of those days she always remembered them fondly. With the family reunited and the addition of a new sister, the Cookseys left the bungalows and moved to Kings Langley, Hertfordshire.
Life and the world opened up for Elenore. She was accepted into Watford Grammar School for Girls to which only the top 25% of the school population was admitted. A bright and curious child, Elenore took delight in school and her studies, thoroughly enjoying the entire pomp and process of grammar school life. She connected with three other girls in her level and together they were a pack of four, a friendship that she maintained and cherished through to the end. While it was not required in those days, Elenore stayed in school through the higher levels of her education.
At the age of 21, Elenore left England and brought her hopes and dreams to the United States. Soon after arriving she met Robert W. Scott, a six foot two, dark-haired, blue-eyed, US Air Force Airman, playing a saxophone with his band. That meeting led to a happy, loving, marriage, two children and a life filled with travel and exploration. Thanks to the United States Air Force, Elenore and Robert were able to live in Maine, California, Arizona, Texas (twice), Colorado, New Hampshire and Spain, until finally retiring in Universal City.
Elenore obtained her United States Citizenship and embraced everything about America. She was a hard-working, do-it-yourself, get-it-done person, a problem solver and a multi-tasker. She took delight in and had a fixation for new technology. She had a keen mind for money and investments. She had a razor sharp intellect and perception that was always softened by her effervescent smile and her glass-half-full attitude.
Elenore had a lucrative career as a Real Estate Agent which she truly enjoyed. She started out working as an agent with other companies in New Hampshire and then in Texas. As her business continued to grow and thrive she went to work for herself, and Scott Properties was established. For over 30 years she took great care and pleasure in helping others find their perfect home.
Elenore loved to play Bridge and often played twice a week. She was an intricate seamstress and extremely talented cook and baker. She made homemade pizza every Saturday night for more than 48 years. She was a painter, a bowler, a dancer, a gardener and a voracious reader.
In 2010 Elenore was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and Congestive Heart Failure. While this news gave her pause, her reaction was to keep going and to keep smiling. She had always said that if she had to go - she was ready - and that she had had a great life.
In light of the diagnosis, Elenore travelled to Dubai, explored India’s Golden Triangle, sailed the Lochs of Scotland, journeyed through the Andes in Peru, climbed Machu Picchu, helicoptered over the Grand Canyon and Hawaii, flew over Alaska’s Glaciers and zip-lined across the coastline in Curacao.
In the last 10 years Elenore travelled to many countries, sailed to many ports and chased many sunsets. While she enjoyed all of her adventures, she would tell you that she was most content out by her pool, enjoying the sounds of her waterfall, the tranquility of her garden and reading a good book.
Elenore was extraordinary. She had an extraordinary life. A life lived fully.
She was loved and she will be missed.
A Celebration of Elenore’s Life will be scheduled in the future ~ when the world opens up and people can be together. Her ashes will be reunited with her husband, at Fort Sam Houston, and scattered to familiar places.
