Elaine Messina

Elaine Winn was born to Robert and Therma (Goodwin) Winn on March 27, 1932 in Marque, TX. She was received by her Lord Jesus Christ peacefully at her home in Schertz, Texas on February 8, 2020. Elaine was raised Southern Baptist by her mother (Ma) and grandmother, Mary (MaMa) Goodwin in Waco, Tx. She graduated from La Vega High School in 1950 in Bellmead, Texas and graduated from The Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Waco in 1953. Elaine married Don Messina on September 12,1953 (coincidently the same day as President & Mrs. John F. Kennedy married). They were married fifty-six years and raised three children: Donna, Ben and Scott. Elaine began her nursing career at the Carswell Air Force Base hospital and later worked at the Nix Hospital in San Antonio. Don’s Air Force assignments took their family from Waco to San Antonio, Ft. Worth, and Mascoutah, Illinois. Elaine and her mother cared for her children while Don served in two Air Force tours overseas in Iceland and Goose Bay, Labrador. Throughout her life Elaine loved visiting family, neighbors and her Sunday School classmates.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Don Messina, daughter Donna and son-in law Richard Barker, and many beloved Goodwin, Winn, Messina and Kickerillo family relatives. Elaine is survived by her sons Ben and Scott (Denise), her grandchildren Donna’s Melinda (Ross) Dye, Ben’s Philip (Sarah), Daniel, Joel and John Messina, and Scott’s Maria & Katy and her great-grandchildren Melinda’s Richard & Makayla, and Philip and Sarah’s Luke.
