Edward Higginson, Jr.

Edward James Higginson, Jr., born July 4, 1929 in Denver, Colorado, passed away on May 4, 2015 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 85. Edward came to Texas while in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, he met his future bride, Dorlene Tolle of Cibolo. The couple married on February 8, 1953 and by 1959 settled in Cibolo, where they spent their remaining years together. In 1965, Edward Higginson became the first official law enforcement officer for the city of Cibolo, when he was elected city marshal shortly after the city's incorporation. He served as city marshal for over 7 years. Edward joined the Cibolo Volunteer Fire Department in 1956 and became Fire Chief in 1973. He served in this position until his retirement from the fire department in 1994. In addition, Edward had many vocations over the years including mechanic and welder (proprietor of Cibolo Garage & Welding), antenna and sound system technician, construction equipment maintenance, and lastly spent several years working at Sippel's True Value Hardware. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Arvilla Higginson, his sisters LaRetta Bentz, Helen Coym and Lorraine Lagestee, and his brothers Clay Higginson and Gale Higginson. Survivors include his wife Dorlene Higginson of Cibolo; son Randy Higginson (Charlayne) of Grand Junction, CO; daughter Valerie Stillwell (Robert) of Kingsbury, TX; grandchildren Amy Carruth (Wayne), Ryan Higginson (Natalie), Tiffany Burgess, and Luke Stillwell; great grandchildren Kazlyn and Elliott Carruth; sister Kathleen McCallister (Monte); brother Darrell Higginson (Christie); sister Zee Spanicek (Willis); brother Delbert Higginson (Pam); and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009 in Schertz, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Schertz Funeral Home with interment to follow at Bracken Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Cibolo Fire Department or local charity of your choice.
