September 6, 1936 - March 29, 2020
Edd was born in Hainesport, New Jersey. He left his childhood home behind a boy at seventeen, and became a man in the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and continued to support the military throughout his life. The patriarch of the family having 3 sons and one daughter, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A man who was always there for those who needed him, a man of God and who was ready to meet Him when he was called.
Edd was passionate about his family, his church, Schertz United Methodist Church having held several offices and loved his bible study time every day. He enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as all of his fur babies. An avid fisherman Edd loved fishing with his brother-in-law in New Jersey, as well as his grandchildren in Texas. People who have had the pleasure to meet him say that when Edd says you are family he meant it. He was an avid supporter of the American Legion Post 593, the VFW, the Guardians of the Children and loved his time with the Sauerkrauts.
Edd is preceded in death by his father, Edward A. Dries, Sr. and his mother Jennie Dries. Edd is survived by his wife Viola (Zimmerman) of 64 years; sisters, Elaine Clark and Linda Fischer, his children Allen Dries (Judi), Bobby Dries (Lisa), Debbie (Rick) and Davey. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Schertz United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Edd's name to Schertz United Methodist Church.
