Edmund Rzeszotarski

November 10, 1935 — January 23, 2017

Edmund Stanley Rzeszotarski was born on Nov. 10, 1935 at home in Chicago, IL, the only child of Zygmund Rzeszotarski and Marianna Serocki Rzeszotarski. He grew up surrounded by cousins in the area as well as his maternal grandmother, who lived with the family for some time. He would also take trips to rural Nebraska to visit his paternal Grandmother and cousins who resided there. In Chicago, Ed attended St. Mary of Perpetual Help School and, later, DePaul University where he graduated with a B.S. in Accounting. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a 1st Lieutenant for 2 1/2 years. Ed worked as an accountant in the Chicago area until his retirement and subsequent move to a warmer climate in San Antonio.

Ed married Doris on September 9, 1967 and the couple was married for 8 years until Doris's death in 1975. On March 17, 1979, Ed married the love of his life, Deloris "Bobi" Curran. Bobi brought 4 children to the marriage, Dwight who was no longer in the home, Leslie, deceased, Jeff, and Nicole, deceased. Nicole was 7 years old at the time of the marriage and quickly became Ed's girl. He would attend her volleyball matches, take her shopping for school clothes and loved her completely. Nicole's death in a car crash on Nov. 23, 1992 was the great tragedy of Ed and Bobi's life and they both mourned her until their own deaths.

When Ed and Bobi left Illinois, they first moved to the Leon Springs area where they purchased a large sprawling ranch-style home that they made into a Bed and Breakfast, known as the Lazy R. Ed and Bobi were the consummate Bed and Breakfast hosts with Bobi keeping everyone well-fed and Ed working as her right-hand man! They made a marvelous team. After Nicole's death, they poured their grief into the Bed and Breakfast and Ed once said that they went an entire year without a single weekend off from the many guests who came to the Lazy R. Among their claim to fame was hosting the golfer, ChiChi Rodriguez on more than one occasion. During their time in the Leon Springs area, they also became very active at the Casa de Padres, a retirement home in the area for Catholic Priests. Bobi would cook a meal once a week and all priests residing at the Casa had an open invitation to eat and fellowship at Ed and Bobi's home. They also became active in charities such as toy drives for children and would often host activities in their home. They made many friends in the Leon Springs area and remained friends with many of them throughout their life.

Eventually, they sold the Lazy R and lived in various places throughout the north San Antonio area, except for a few brief years when they moved to Florida to be closer to Bobi's family. They quickly realized how much they missed Texas and moved back as soon as they could, never leaving again. Ed was a man who valued family and friends. His friends, the Goulds, Rafael, Tony, Lucia, Trudy and others, along with some who have passed before him, added to the richness of his life. Family was also important to him and he stayed in touch over the years with cousins on both sides of his family -- Marie, Roxie and Dick and Barb. He became an integral part of Roxie's family and became a second grandfather to her children and "Papa Ed" to her grandchildren. Ed was a man truly at peace with God and looked forward to his reunion with Bobi, Nicole and others who had gone before him. While his family mourns his passing, we rejoice that he is now fully healed, happy and being well-fed and loved by Bobi. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Zygmund and Marianna, his stepchildren, Leslie and Nicole, Doris and his beloved Bobi.
