Edgar Ludwig
October 13, 1923 — February 5, 2013
Edgar Charles Ludwig lived a long, admirable life that defined the words: strength and love. Love is not only defined by family but Edgar was always surrounded by a big family and made that the most important thing in his life. He was born to Paul and Theresa Ludwig who preceded Edgar in death along with his five brothers and sisters: Pearl, Lucille, Marcella, Marvin and Paul, Jr. When Edgar became an adult he started his own career and family where his definition of love and strength were even more developed. He started working at Pearl Brewery and from there he worked with his brother-in-law, Raymond Goll as a mechanic. He then went to work for Ford Motor Division of Bock Motor Company as a mechanic for 35 years where he retired. You could see the strength in his hands. He could fix anything and it showed. He had to scrub his hands until they were completely clean of dirt, oil, and grease before the love of his life, Vera Mary Goll, allowed him to sit down for a meal. Vera meant everything to Edgar and all the love that he possessed shined brightest when he was with her. Together they raised a beautiful family which consisted of four wonderful daughters: Barbara Jean, who was taken too early in life; Sharon, who married Jim Barr; Lana, who married Leroy Shodrok; and Dinah, who married Douglas Heilmann. They blessed Edgar and Vera with four wonderful grandchildren: Renee, Stephanie, Sean and Rachael, who married Chris and blessed Edgar with his one great granddaughter, Caylee. Edgar and Vera were married for 63 amazing years full of love and memories. When she passed in August of 2007 Edgars strength was truly tested. He relied on his family to help him live without his true love. He became ill five years after her death and he fought and fought in and out of hospitals for six months. Finally it became time for love to win over strength. On February 5th, 2013 Edgar joined the love of his life. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00PM on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel with interment immediately following at Sunset Memorial Park. The family would like to give a special thanks to Vitas Inpatient Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers family request dontaions be made to the Beitel Lutheran Church, 2515 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218.
