Easter Lilly Baughman

Easter Lilly Baughman (Pyatt) was born on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1930 on a farm near Cherryville, Missouri to Esco and Eula Pyatt. She was the 4th of 9 children. Easter graduated from Cherryville High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri to work.

While on her senior high school trip in 1948 to the Forrest Park Highlands Amusement Park in St. Louis, a friend introduced Easter to a young airman stationed at Scott Air Force Base named James Baughman. They were married on August 12, 1951. A large part of their courtship was by letter since he was stationed in Alaska, then considered part of the Korean War zone. She was married to James for 69 years until his death in November 2020.

During the next 19 years Easter lived the life of an Air Force wife moving from base to base, during which time they had 2 daughters: Beverly and Roberta. After James retired from the Air Force in 1969 and they moved to St Louis, Missouri. Easter worked part-time at Sears while their daughters finished high school and college.

While living in St Louis, Easter accompanied James on several church mission trips to build schools and church buildings. These including El Salvador, Ecuador, and Zaire (now Republic of Congo).

The fall of 1981, James accepted an offer to work in Saudi Arabia for McDonnell Douglas. The next 6 years James and Easter lived in Saudi Arabia. While there, they had the opportunity to travel the world. James and Easter visited China, Napal, India, Thailand, Kenya, and much of Europe: places she never dreamed of seeing when she was a child.

After James retired from McDonnell Douglas, they moved to Florida for 12 years and then moved back to St Louis. In 2014, they moved to New Braunfels to live with their daughter and son-in-law: Beverly and Gary Cobb.

Easter is survived by daughters, Beverly Cobb (Gary), and Roberta Gordon (late Joel Gordon); and 2 brothers. She is preceded in death by her husband James, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
