Dovie Marie Wendt Caldwell was reunited in Heaven with her husband, George, on October 16, 2020 at the age of 87. She married the love of her life, George, on September 15, 1952. They had 4 children, Charles Alton Caldwell of The Colony, Terry Gayle Caldwell Wrightsman who preceded them in death on April 9, 1996, James Lee Caldwell of Schertz, and Curtis Wayne Caldwell of Schertz. They shared 51 years of marriage until George’s death on March 20, 2003. George served in the United States Air Force for 23 years as a firearms expert. Being the wife of a service man allowed the family to travel to England, where they lived for three years, as well as many locations throughout the United States. The pair finally settled in Schertz, Texas where they made their forever home. Dovie was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and was one of the original founders of the volunteer ambulance services in Schertz. Dovie was well-loved in the community as she worked as a school nurse for twenty years, retiring at the age of 72. Dovie is survived by her three sons, Charles, James and Curtis as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No services are pending.
The Gift of Friendship a Tribute of Friendship by Dovie’s Dearest Friend, Johnnie Jones
Even though I am reeling from the sudden death of my dear friend Dovie , I am glad our paths crossed and am glad we met. I am Johnnie Marie Jones, her neighbor across the street. Dovie was a school nurse in the SCUC ISD for over 20 years. She was a smart, kind and caring nurse to students and families. She also told me that she was involved in the creation of emergency services for the Schertz area and a school board member. She also had been a Sunday School teacher. Every day Dovie would come home for lunch and I would be gardening. After lunch one day in 1992, she asked me, “why don’t you go to work”. I asked, “just what might that be?” She said “call this number now” (pushy right ?). I did, and the rest is history. That one question she asked me provided me with a job as the School Nurse at Samuel Clemens High school for over 20 years. Since that faithful day in 1992, we did not miss a day of visits or phones calls. We discussed EVERTHING! Whether it was families, travels, hobbies, work, politics, puppies and even that one day I would have to write this message today. So for all that transpired between us, be it Bitter or Sweet, our meeting was a Gift from GOD. May you Rest in Peace my Dear Friend.
