Douglas W. Martin (Doug) passed away on February 11, 2025 in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 94.
Doug was born October 14, 1930 in Winchendon, Massachusetts to Antonio and Jeannette (Faucher) Martin. He graduated from Deerfield Academy, Massachusetts in 1949, and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in June 1952, with a degree in Business Administration. He married the love of his life, Ann Beaumont on June 7, 1952, in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ann, of 59 years. He is survived by his son, Gary D. Martin and his wife, Sandra, of Richardson, Texas and his daughter, Diane Smith and her husband, Mike, of Kerrville, Texas; his two sisters, Jeanne Drumgool (Jim), of Cincinnati, Ohio and Sally Neal (Jeff), of Venice, Florida. He is survived by four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Upon graduating from UMass, Doug was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force, primarily serving as a reconnaissance navigator. In his 26-year Air Force career, he served at numerous Air Force bases throughout the U.S., and in Germany and the Canal Zone. He was a Vietnam veteran flying reconnaissance missions over both north and south Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous military service commendations throughout his career, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired in 1978 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Doug and Ann embraced their military life but continued to maintain their family as a priority during all those years of relocating to various locations. Following his career in the Air Force, he and Ann retired to Fort Myers, Florida where he worked as a deputy hospital administrator. Eventually, they retired and moved to the San Antonio area to be closer to family.
Doug's faith was very important to him. He served the Lord in his parish church on several boards and committees. As such, a celebratory funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) church in Selma, Texas on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Inurnment will be at the National Cemetery, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio where he will be reunited with his wife, Ann.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
