Dorothy Stewart (Dot), age 80, passed away on October 31, 2017, at Eden Hill Communities in New Braunfels, TX. She was born on November 15, 1936, in Rutherford County, TN to King Harvey Swarford and Lillie Frances Swarford. She accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Readyville, TN. She attended Holloway High School in Murfreesboro, TN. She met the love of her life at Stewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, TN. On January 22, 1955, she married James Stewart (PaPa) in holy matrimony. They were blessed with 55 years of union and had four children, Harvey, Robert, Lisa, and Vanessa. She began her life as a military spouse, having lived in (Okanawa) Japan, (Alexandria) Louisiana, and Texas. She was very active with the NCO Wives club. She attended Grambling College Division of Education and worked as a Head-Start educator in Alexandria, LA. Upon her arrival to Texas, she worked for several local area businesses before becoming a Domestic Engineer. Dorothy attended Randolph Air Force Base Chapel for 40 years where she served as an usher of the Traditional Service as well as the Contemporary Service. She was a faithful member of the Protestant Women of the Chapel Ministry (PWOC). She later joined Resurrection Baptist Church, Schertz, TX. She loved gardening, crossword puzzles, board games, bowling, fishing, playing cards, bingo, and watching sports. She also enjoyed spending summers with her sisters, family, relatives, and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was truly loved by all. She is preceded in death by: the love of her life, James Stewart (PaPa), Harvey Stewart (Son), Marion Vanessa Stewart (Daughter), Brandon Ray Jemison (Grandson), Lillian Williams (Sister), and James Swarford (Brother). She leaves to celebrate her life: Son, Robert (Melissa) - Schertz, TX; Daughter, Lisa (Ray)- Panama City, FL; Sister, Bobbi Hayes- Readyville, TN; Sister-In-Laws, Pearl Dixon and Irma Griffin- Markham, IL; Grandchildren, Tia Jemison, Zack Stewart, Christopher Stewart, Jyaire Stewart, Keenan Harris; Great Grandchildren, Leyah Stewart, Kennedy Rae Stewart; Extended Daughters Tanya (Eddie)- The Colony, TX, Christine Hazelton- Universal City, TX. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and special friends who have been sisters to her- Evelyn Moss, Patsy Dekle, Kitty Shepherd, Sharon Walker. There has also been one friend who has been her daughter and a friend to the family - Pastor Mary Bolden. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at Resurrection Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
