Dorothy Spurlock

November 27, 1936 — March 11, 2016

Dorothy Marie Spurlock of Universal City, TX, was born in Rome, NY on November 27, 1936 and passed away March 11, 2016 with her family by her side.

Dorothy was an incredibly loving and supportive mother. She was equally beautiful inside and out. Her generosity, selflessness and love of others were just a few of the many characteristics that made her the person that was admired by all. She showed her determination, dignity, strength and love till the very end.

Dorothy served our Country in the United State Air Force until 1959. After leaving the Air Force she held several different and unique occupations. She was never one to shy away from hard work, and retired from Valero Corporation after 21 years in management. She considered her co-workers and customers like family, and treated each as such.

Dorothy loved to cook, bake and make desserts and treats, especially around the holidays. Everyone remembers and still talks about her biscuits and gravy. She also made many wonderful native dishes from Austria and the Ukraine which were passed down from her grandparents and parents.

Another of her many interests was her love of Elvis Presley. The "Elvis" Christmas tree was a wonderful staple around the home during the holiday season, and each year she would add several new ornaments; a tradition that will continue.

She is missed dearly and as each day passes we cherish the time we had with her. Her legacy of love and generosity continues through her children and the many hearts she touched.

One of eleven children, she was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Boiko, her siblings Nick Boiko, Morris Boiko, Marcella Wood, Katie Fadell, Charlie Boiko, Peter Boiko, John Boiko, Olga Frye, Sophie Gromelski.
Dorothy is survived by the pride and joy of her life; her three children, Bob Jr., residing in Richardson, TX, Tim of El Paso, TX and Cindy of Universal City, TX. She was the rock of her family. She is also survived by a sister, Irene Diehl, residing in Florida and by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 3:00PM -7:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10:00AM at the Schertz Funeral Home with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
