Dorothy "Janette" Lovett

August 11, 1937 — January 17, 2024

Dorothy “Janette” Lovett, age 86 of New Braunfels, TX., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was born in Lubbock, TX. on August 11, 1937 to James Forrest Anderson and Ida Gladys Boyd Anderson. Although Janette moved around quite a bit growing up, living in California and El Paso, TX., some of her best memories included being with her grandmother who lived outside Lubbock in a small community called Lakeview. It was there, through her grandmother’s influence, that she came to know the Lord at a small mission Baptist Church.

Throughout her life Janette advocated for improving the lives of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including her daughter. Her motto was “If it doesn’t exist, organize it”. She was the Director/Founding Member of the Arc of Greater Beaumont, and a Board Member of the Arc of Texas State Board of Directors. In addition, she was the Director/Coordinator of the Christian Women’s Job Corp of Silsbee, TX., and Founding Member of Self-Advocates. She retired from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, serving as a paralegal and coordinator for Pro Bono and Protective Orders Program for abused women. After moving to New Braunfels, she served as a CASA volunteer for Comal County. Her generous and compassionate spirit allowed her to make many friends. She loved Jesus, and was a member of Oakwood Church in New Braunfels.

She is survived by her daughter Lynda Melton of San Antonio, and was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Lovett, and son Samuel James Melton.

A celebration of Janette’s life will be held on Saturday, February 3 at Oakwood Church (Pavilion area behind the main building) at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, TX. at a later date.

We would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Oak Tree Assisted Living and Hope Hospice for the loving care that they provided her during the last months.
