Dorlene Higginson

September 15, 1935 — January 13, 2018

Dorlene Jane Tolle Higginson, born September 15, 1935 in Cibolo, Texas, passed away on January 13, 2018 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 82.

Dorlene was born and raised on a farm just outside of Cibolo, Texas. She graduated from Schertz-Cibolo High School in 1953. Her parents would often invite young servicemen out to the farm from Randolph Air Force Base for a good home cooked meal. It was there that Dorlene met her future husband, Edward Higginson, Jr. The couple married on February 8, 1953 and were married 62 years at the time of his death in 2015. Over a span of 40 years, Dorlene worked both full time and part time as a bank teller at the Cibolo State Bank, and was always ready to help if they had a personnel shortage. Dorlene was also an active volunteer for the Cibolo Volunteer Fire Department fundraising events for many years.

One of Dorlene's greatest accomplishments was her genealogical research of the family lineage for both the Higginson and Tolle families. Long before the invention of the internet, she carefully and factually documented centuries of family history, some as far back as the 18 th century in Germany. She was a contributor to several books that documented different family tree branches and early Texas settlers.

Dorlene is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Helena Tolle, and her husband Edward Higginson, Jr.

Survivors include her son Randy Higginson (Charlayne) of Grand Junction, CO; daughter Valerie Stillwell (Robert) of Kingsbury, TX; grandchildren Amy Carruth (Wayne), Ryan Higginson (Natalie), Tiffany Burgess, and Luke Stillwell; great grandchildren Kazlyn and Elliot Carruth; sister, LaVerne Waldbusser, of Port Byron, IL; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19 th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009 in Schertz, TX. Graveside services will be at Bracken Cemetery on Saturday, January 20 th at 1:00 p.m.
