Donald "Don" Thomas Lynch, born on April 14, 1937 to Jerrie Lynch and Maude Scherer, in Eldorado, Illinois, passed away on June 30, 2016 at the age of 79. Don graduated from Eldorado High School where he played basketball before quitting to take a part-time job. His first job was paper routes along with working in the school cafeteria and as an usher in the movie theater. Then he worked for Truman at the gas station where he met his future wife, Ramona. After high school, Don joined the Air Force. His first posting was in Japan. From there, he was assigned to postings in San Antonio, Tennessee, Korea, Washington D.C. and Alabama. It was in Alabama where he reached his 20 year anniversary with the Air Force. Don was a handyman and an amateur mechanic. He especially liked bargain hunting, whether it was coupons, garage sales, flea markets, or the end of the aisles at Target. Don
enjoyed watching Fox News and listening to conservative radio. He read constantly, mostly political thrillers and mysteries. Prior to being sick, he began forwarding emails with tips, political stories, humor, photos and other items from the website. But mostly, he enjoyed sitting outside in the bright sun with a book and a Lone Star next to his pool. Growing up his favorite past time was riding his bike and playing softball. Don bowled, played volleyball and frequently played badminton in the backyard. Over the years, he enjoyed watching the St Louis Cardinals baseball. He took his kids to a game in St. Louis on one of their annual trips "back home". He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Cowboys, and, of course, the San Antonio Spurs. Don received his Associates degree from San Antonio College the same year his son Don graduated from high school and his daughter Nancy received her degree from Texas A&M.
Eventually, he moved his family to San Antonio Texas where he began looking for a position in civil service and found himself working with the wall sized computers at Lackland Air Force Base during graveyard shift. Later he moved into a supply position at Randolph Air Force Base where he was recognized for "outstanding managerial abilities, communication skills and superior technical computer knowledge". In total, he had 42 years of Federal Service. Don planned to someday work at Walmart as a greeter
