Donald Corporon
April 30, 1935 — August 28, 2009
Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Donald Lewis Corporon of Schertz, Texas departed this life on August 28, 2009, to be with his risen Lord and Savior " Jesus Christ. He lived a long and productive life filled with much honor and integrity. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth of Schertz, Texas; his daughter Donna Volitis and husband, David of Schertz, Texas; and sons Michael Corporon and wife, Shelly of Fort Worth, Texas; Brent Corporon and wife, Joyce of Seguin, Texas; and Warren Craig Corporon of Round Rock, Texas. He was preceded in death by one son, Brian Dean Corporon. Donald had ten grandchildren that were the delight of his life: John Christopher and Ryan Volitis; Michelle Criswell and Weston Corporon and their mother, Sherri; as well as Jacob Corporon, Timothy and Casey Corporon; Bailey and Cameron Corporon and their mother, Denise. He also had three great grandchildren. In addition his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Arthur and Alice Bishop held a special place in his life. His early life was spent on a farm in Dougherty, Iowa where he was the oldest of ten children. He was preceded in death by sister, Shirley and brother, Marvin. He is survived by siblings, Vern Corporon and wife, Linda of Aurora, Colorado, Robert Corporon and wife, Nancy of Dougherty, Iowa, David Corporon and wife, Carol of Sioux City, Iowa, Margery Hahn and husband, Larry of Clear Lake, Iowa, Lester Corporon and wife, Linda of Dougherty, Iowa, Lavonne Rohn and husband, Ron of Mankato, Minnesota, and Judy Haun and husband, Pete of Draper, Utah, sister-in-law, Norma Corporon and brother-in-law, Dallas McClemons. Donald also had numerous nieces and nephews. Chief Corporon served in the Army National Guard for two and half years and was called to active duty during the Korean conflict. He then served in the United States Air Force for 24 years. He served his country in the defense of freedom in the Korean and Southeast Asia conflicts and was decorated in each. During his military career he served three years assigned to the American Embassy in Oslo, Norway, followed by an assignment to Wiesbaden, Germany. After a tour in Southeast Asia, he spent four years assigned to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He served two tours at Randolph AFB, Texas. Upon retirement from the military, Donald held various club management positions with the Randolph Officers Club, City Club and the San Antonio Petroleum Club. His family deeply mourns his passing but the memories of his liveliness, humor, guidance and leadership will sustain and guide us through the rest of our lives. He gave us strength, courage, and a faith in God that will always be cherished. Visitation will be held Monday, August 31, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Cornerstone Church , with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
