Dolores Lopez

March 20, 1941 — January 6, 2015

Longtime Schertz resident Dolores C. Lopez passed away in a Hayward, California Hospital Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at age 73. Dolores was born March 20, 1941 in San Antonio Texas, to Gilberto (d. Dec 8, 1978) and Maria Campos (d. Mar 10, 1960). She had 8 siblings; Amparo, Theresa, Arturo, Refugio, Isabel, Lucia, Guadalupe, and Elvira. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1961, married Frank Porter Lopez Jr. (d. Sept 16, 2001), and had four children. She was noted for her practical sense of humor, strong sense of fairness and genuine independent nature. She was often quoted as saying, "I don't' mind getting paid women's wages, so as long as when I go to the store I can pay women's prices". Dolores was a lover of blues music, ceramics, wood-working, gardening, and cooking. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren and raised them all to have "integrity" (her favorite word) and was never short on wisdom. She worked as a cook for a number of years prior to a final 20 year stint at Cabinet Fronts of Texas Inc. where she retired in 2002. Dolores built and gave each one of her children a custom cedar hope chest as wedding gifts. Among the memorable experiences she cherished most are living in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960's, Hawaii in the early 1970's, a trip to New York City and a 2006 return trip to San Francisco to visit her son Frank. Dolores is survived by her four children, Miguel Antonio Lopez of Schertz, Lawrence Sonny Lopez of Houston, Lisa Anne Purcell of Universal City and Frank Porter Lopez III, of Newark, California. She is also survived by five grandchildren - Brianna Lopez, Alexis Lopez, Mariah Lopez, Max Purcell and Aaron Purcell. She will be painfully missed and her children and grandchildren are forever grateful for her diligence and strong sense of character and fairness which are evermore their guiding light to prosper through their individual journeys. She passed away with tremendous comfort knowing her children did very well with the integrity and character that she herself instilled in them and she never hesitated to talk about their achievements. Dolores will be flown back to her native Texas for services. The family will be receiving friends at Schertz Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. There will be a Funeral Service held at Schertz Funeral Home on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM with a procession leading to Holy Cross Cemetery.
