Despina Woods

July 14, 1945 — June 27, 2009

Despina Woods born 14 July 1945 in Iraklion Crete, Greece passed away Saturday 27 June 2009 at home in Schertz, Texas in the presence of her husband and daughter. Despina was the 2nd of 9, children born to Christos, and Andrianie Platidas. She loved children and had taught the children of the Saint Sofia Greek Orthodox Church, the traditional Greek dances that they performed at the San Antonio Folk life Festival and other church functions for many years. She was a member of and past president of the Daughters of Penelope local chapter, a member of the Philoptohos, one of the founding members of the Aridne chapter of the San Antonio Pancretan organization. She is survived by her beloved husband Joseph Chief Woods and daughter Andrianie Woods: Four sisters, Mary Minor of California, Rhania, Eve, Barbara, and Maria in Greece: Three brothers, Stratos, Titos, and Toles in Greece. Visitation will be held at Schertz Funeral Home located at 2217 F.M. 3009 Schertz, Texas: Tuesday 30 June from 6:00PM until 9:00 PM with a Trisaigon service beginning at 7:00 PM. Memorial service, Burial, and Makaria will be conducted Wednesday 1 July 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Archangels Greek Orthodox Monastery located at 2191 Twinsisters Drive, Springbranch, Texas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Monastery in Despinas memory.
