Capt. Dennis 'Denny' Mark Shumaker, USAF, Retired, returned home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at the age of 74, surrounded by loving family. He was the oldest of twelve children born on October 1, 1941, in a small farming country in Oelwein, Iowa to Joyce Lund Shumaker and Kenneth Shumaker. Denny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Patrick Shumaker. In 1961, Denny enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was named Airman of the Year, joined the AFOSI shortly after and retired after serving our country for 22 years. With great accomplishment, Denny graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor in Arts with honors and Troy University with a Master of Science in International Relations. He was proudly recognized as a member for MENSA. Denny retired from Coldwell Banker D' Ann Harper, Realtors, as VP of the Universal City branch.
Denny was loved and touched by so many hearts with his warm, welcoming and funny sense of humor. There wasn't a day that went by without hearing a funny joke or story. Denny enjoyed listening to music while at home, cheering for the Seminoles with his FSU friends and most importantly he loved talking and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by so many, but will always remain with us in our hearts, remembering all of the precious moments we have spent with this wonderful man.
Denny was survived by many who love him dearly: his wife, Sue Shumaker; daughter, Joyce Poshuta, Husband, Craig Poshuta; son: Patrick Shumaker; step-daughters: Lisa Moore, Husband Matthew Moore, Linda Benavides, Husband Mark Benavides, Yolanda Rivas; siblings: Judi Shumaker, Janet Tibbets, Diane and Jim McNeely, John Shumaker, Terrence Shumaker, Jill Sussman, Steve Shumaker, James Shumaker, Kenneth Shumaker, Kathleen Shumaker, Mary Lund Shumaker; maternal aunts: Bonnie Olsen, Rita Engelhardt; grandchildren: Max, Sam, Jack, Alexandria, Christian, Charlotte, Jacob; many nieces and nephews.
